Indeed I do, indeed I do.

So, even if you choose to do alot of the stuff in an FPGA design
fashion, you can also include a small MPU to do small tidbits here and
there. For instance, stuff which is done very rarely but which is
fairly complex could very well be done by the MPU and those the MPU
logic is shared between those functions. This is a quite powerfull way
of thinking.

You could also roll your own DSP chip, but with the features you
want. This may be a bit hard to do thougth, but the silicon is there
for you to use...

A simple FPGA kit is fairly cheap today and the tools are there
awaiting to be used. The Xilinx WebPACK toolkit isn't that bad actually.
The single worst thing about it is that there isn't a propper Linux
release. When will Xillinx get it?
