[sdiy] oscilloscope considerations

If I was going to buy one reasonably priced scope for
general use, I'd get analog. Digital can't be beat for
some things, especially single shot stuff and waveform
documentation, but I would not want be digital only.

For audio, it's useful (well, it's fun anyway) to do XY
mode. Not all digitals can do XY. (I think) The Tek 3200's
have a "triggered XY". But it looks "funny" to me.

Another feature I think is underrated is GATE OUT. Gives
you a pulse when the scope triggers. Good as a deluxe
trigger for a frequency counter.

Modern product life cycle times are getting shorter all the
time too. Tek no longer supports their 2400 series, which
is a scope I like a lot. Creeps.

All I have myself is an old Heathkit. The weird thing is the
trace fades out in XY mode. Any ideas?
