[sdiy] silly solder fears (and landlords)

The MSDS sheet for Kester 331 (a common electronic solder says)

"no lead is detected in fumes from soldering below 1000 (degrees) F
(537C)"

so it might do to show the regulatory agent the landlord referred to
that your
temperature controlled solder station (I use 750F myself) of xxx degrees
F...
cannot possibly be the source of lead detected in the apartment... and
furthermore...
you as a tenant might like to contact the agancy yourself... just to be
sure that the
true source of the lead is discovered and mitigated....

Or would the landlord prefer just to leave your hobby out of
consideration... ?

Seriously... the flux has some organic compounds that are not GOOD for
you... but
if you are not cranking out more than a personal amount of DIY there is
little/no
danger to you or other residents.

Other research indicates that solutions (solder is a tin-lead
solution... just happens
to be frozen at room temperature) have lower melting points, and higher
boiling
points, than do pure substances.

Pure lead boils at 1500 Celcius (at one atmosphere) so the 1000F figure
is
WAY conservative....

Still kids... please don't eat the shit. OK ?
