How does the polyphony on Roland Juno 6, 60, Jupiter 
6, Jupiter 8, Prophet 5--work?

I know some have MIDI some do not. I assume there is 
digital control of all these synths in some way. 

Are there any books or websites that explain how this 
works in great detail? 

Particularly, how a single knob can control the CV of 
four, six, eight... voices?
