[sdiy] PG200 controller - hacking?

Hi list,

I'm expecting a faulty Roland JX-3P to arrive sometime. It doesn't have the
PG200 controller however, and assuming I get the synth itself working again,
I am toying with the idea of cloning the PG200. The hardware involved in the
PG200 looks very simple microprocessor-based project, but of course there is
the issue of finding out exactly what the protocol is that the '200 uses to
communicate with the JX-3P. Of course, the service manual doesn't discuss
any of this. Does anyone know much more about the PG200 and the control
codes it transmits? Has anyone used a logic analyser to look at the codes it
exchanges with the synth when knobs / buttons are adjusted, and / or has
already attempted to clone one?

Thanks,

Trevor.
