This was used in a early 80s Boss distortion pedal. Best I was ever
able to find is it was a audio preamp chip. The distortion pedal
schematic shows it wired up pretty much like a non-inverting opamp
config. The same pedal today is still in production using almost
identical circuit and a rather generic opamp.
