No... they come sufficiently long away from each other for the
suppression to work, so they act like new sounds each time, and they come
sufficiently close to be anoying since each time you react and think
about it, for each drop. Now that's the annoying thing, your CPU keeps
reacting to each interrupt and other tasks gets scheduled out. That's why
it works well as a torture method.

Don't try this at home... or at work... or anywhere else for that matter!
