Question... do the modules just NOT work with negative voltages...
or are they DAMAGED by negative voltages ???

If damaged... I'd make some active clamp circuits that will not allow
the CV
to go below ground.

A cheapo way would be a shottky or germanium diode in series with the
CV...
or a similar diode in shunt (does not allow voltage to go below .2V or
so...)

Most CVs will not require "precision scale thingies". But if you have a
schematic
for one please post it :^)     (just fooling)
