i've been using books by a guy named delton horn to help me. his 'music synthesizers:a
manual of design and construction' has been particularly helpful. the best
place to go, i've found, is the music library at the local university. of
course, it helps if you're a student like me and can check them out :P i
just typed in 'analogue synthesizer' and the like and came up with a bunch
of fairly useful books. in my like-minded newbie quest, i've found it's best
to get several different books, because some will invariably explain different
things better than others, and it helps to know exactly what a VCO actually
does before you just go and copy the circuit diagram. hope this helps.
