[sdiy] buying resistors

I'm sure everyone has a different story, but I will share mine.  I have
taken to pretty much using 1% resistors for everything since they are so
cheap.  I buy the Xicon jobbies from Mouser (271-value).  If you buy 10 at a
time they are 9 cents each.  So, that is 90 cents.  But, at quantity 200,
the price drops to 2 cents each, only $4 total.  So, I just started ordering
a bag of 200 every time I needed a resistor of a particular size.  It was
not long before I had a very substantial collection of resistors in the
sizes I used most.  I rarely buy a resistor these days.

I am just starting to build stuff without kits, so what is the best way to
buy resistors? piece by piece? or is there some good way to get a wide
variety in bulk.
