This sounds strange .. consider a big SysEx dump - this can be a really long continuous stream of data (in my old Akai S950 you can dump whole samples over MIDI) .. surely SoundDiver and Logic are able to cope with this (although in my experience not all MIDI interfaces can). Perhaps the S-760 has problems in MIDI monitor mode because of the update time of the display though?
I guess with a synth it also greatly depends on what the software actually has to do to handle each CC message. Did you try sending them on a channel which is not mapped to any voice for example?
