[sdiy] Key Lag Improved!

Hi Friends,
First, thanks to everyone for the usual educating and helpful advice--Andrew,
Byron, Glen, Harry. The problem, maybe inherent to Yamaha keyboards in general,
was easier to help that I originally thought. After reading a SonicState review
of how a guy fixed the keyboard problems on his DX100, I opened the PSS460. I
cleaned the printed circuit contacts under the keys with DEOXIT and--drumroll,
please--REMOVED THE THE THIN PERFORATED MYLAR STRIP that lay between the circuit
contacts and the rubber contactor running the length of the keyboard. It seems
that this mylar strip is just thick enough that the extra pressure required to
flex the rubber contact and complete the circuit results in a sensation of lag.
After reassembly, the keys were easier to play and I was able to keep tighter 8th
notes at 120bpm. I would think that the conductive rubber-strip technology is
problematic anyway, in that there would be quite a bit of resistance, and hence
lag, compared to a metal contact. Anyone ever tinker with this on a Yamaha or
other keyboard? Thanks again.
Regards,
Joe Kramer
