Yes, that's true - it will appear softer in the middle. I'm not familiar
with the Serge circuit, but there was a circuit in Electronotes called a
GLAP (Generalized Linear Amplitude Processor) that could do both crossfades
and panning, and had correction for "equal power" curves. I made a PCB from
it but I haven't wired it up yet. I'll report on it when I get to it.
