Wait a second...that sounds familiar.  Do you have the original Mackie 1604? 
I seem to recall that the main outputs on it are polarity-swapped...

So I just downloaded the manual, and it's true.  The 1604's optputs are
tip-cold, ring hot!  I wonder how many more of their devices have this
oversight?
