I had a feeling this chip wasn't so special. I finally managed to find a data
sheet on PartMiner (after I specified Fairchild, instead of Raytheon, and
simply searched for "begins with: RC4" instead of "RC4559N". PartMiner would
actually find the RC4559N chip, but wouldn't let me have a free data sheet till
I did this----very weird.) I'll look through the data sheet, but I doubt that
I'll find anything special enough about the chip that would keep me from making
a substitution.
I really think the $82.22 price I was quoted was a typo. They must have either
read the price of the wrong part number, or they shifted the decimal point of
the real price a couple places. I'm not even sure that I really need one of
these chips for the current repair project, but I was thinking of ordering a
few to have around "just in case." That was before I got this price quote. :)
Thanks everyone, for helping to confirm my suspicions.
Later,
Glen
