If you give me a week or two to get some 50k pots, I'll be trying out the moog slayer mod soon, I did the other mod a few years ago and I wasn't too thrilled by it, so I'm curious to hear if the moog slayer mod will make this synth worth the trouble it gives me :)
A question for the more experienced members though, with the moog slayer mod,
http://synthmod.net/korg/moog_slayer/
will it ever sound the same as it used to? Since the "other mod"
http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Studio/3507/ex800info2.html
doesn't really do anything but move a trimmer pot from the inside to the outside, I could just set it to around the default level and the poly 800 would sound "normal"
with the slayer mod, I'm wondering if there will be no way to get the poly 800 to sound like it used to.
As for the problem getting to to accept through tape in, is saying ERROR after you play the file into it? In my limited experience, if it says ERROR right at the very end of the file, it is a level problem. It took me probably 15 tries to get it right the first time.
Also, since you are using a line level input, the tape in low/hi switch should be set to low.

Howdy!
I just got a Korg Poly 800, and have noticed many ebay poly's that
have some mods done to them. After a cursory search, I found the
"moog_slayer" mod. Has anyone tried it? It looks pretty slick.
I am also interested in doing the sysex mod, but I have no prom
burner, nor do I know what kind of eprom to use. Has anyone tried
it? I might be able to find a burner at the nearby college...
The reason I'm so interested in doing the sysex mod is I've had
ZERO luck getting patches to load. I have 5 different copies of
the "original" poly sounds and have played them through my line-out
at many different volumes. I made a cable with 1/8" stereo plug
and 1/8" mono plug, and also tried a straight 1/8" stereo to 1/8"
stereo cable too. I remember doing this stuff with my APPLE ][ 20
years ago--it was never as finicky as this! Do you guys have any
suggestions?
Thanks,
Brian Hoogerbrugge
