Simple cheap DIY FM polysynth could be made with old computer soundcard containing the Yamaha OPL3 or OPL4 FM chips - use a microcontroller (PIC, 8051, Atmel...) to interface to a keyboard and front panel. Or use a TI/Motorola/AD DSP evaluation kit. Mike
