This reminds me  that some radios had a small variable cap in parallel with 
the main cap, you set the small one halfway & then after getting close with 
the main cap you tweaked with the little one (this was common on 
transistor portables trying to get 20Mhz of shortwave on one dial).
No reason why you couldn't put a trimmer like this across the tuning cap of an 
analog oscillator, it might affect the temperature stability a little, but 
still might be worthwhile if you need to be able to make very fine tuning 
adjustments as you play.
