Don't know how things are in your country,
but at least here in the Netherlands plastic sheets are
generally _less_cost_effective_ compared to Aluminum sheets.
If cost is your major problem, you might consider
MDF or plywood (sp?) panels.
Like plastic this won't give you shielding,
but it IS stable, easy to machine and cheap.
An other option might be PCB material (glassfiber
epoxy with a copper layer).
Although more expensive than aluminum the nice thing is
that you can solder screws or distance holders to the back
side of the panel. These are then not visible from the front.
German manufacturer MFB use this method for their
MFB-synth panels.
