Laurie --

A couple of years ago we looked at other NPN converter pairs. The LM394
works fine, but is a bit pricey.

I've been using the CA3083 array. I measured Rbe to be only 1.3 Ohms (vs.
5.0 Ohms for the CA3046) , and beta's over 200 were common. Matching was
typically to within 0.2 mV, the best I could measure.

See the VCO designs on my website!
