Wow man, can Batz type ;-)
An interesting glimpse into a fellow tortured soul.
Buddy, I feel your pain. Take heart, must of the junk
stores have their catalogs in PDF, so drooling over
paper catalogs until they fall apart is no longer a
problem.
ADD, etc: I imagine the brain like a vast Moog. There
are 1000 controls and 1000 patch combos. The heap big
medicine men of our tribe listen to sound, note that
it sounds like another they heard, and slap a label on
the cassette (or 8-track, that being about how
sophisticated shrinks seem to be). I often wonder: If
you hung around an asylum long enough, would your
knobs get tweaked thus making you nuts? Or would your
"patch" be sufficiently different that it would not
affect you?
My step kid was tested for autism, asbergers, and
another, I forget which. These are all very similar,
and she scored about 80% for each. Not enough for a
diagnosis, but enough to make us wonder. We would read
the descriptions of the syndromes and say, "Gosh, that
sounds just like her, except...".
I suspect I would test rather high for ADD, but not
high enough to get free money or anything. Thats okay,
there are companies out there that will pay me to be
the way I am. I do collect junk, but I recognize when
I'm impulsing and throttle it down. I refrain from
buying something "just because its cool". Instead I
have a list I keep at my bench. When I don't have
something I need, I put it on the list. When I am in
spending, er I mean ordering mode, I grab the list and
see how much I can afford.
This is what I get for typing at 2:30AM
