Well, I'm now 20 and was 18/19 wen I got into diy. It started
on another list (music-bar) that someone (moron *g*) was telling
the list about building some electra distortion FX. I was interested and finally
build one. I subscribed to this list here and I was hooked.
The community spirit and the help you people provide is just amazing.
It shure helps when you know that there are knowlegeable people who you
can ask about anything dealing with electronics.
All this led me to finally dismiss studying Computers and now I will study
ELECTRONICS here in Germany.
If there had been no DIY I would be on a totally different path.
For me all this DIY projects are highly interesting.. the best way to learn
how all things work.
I wouldn't say that DIY is dead. I'd say that software such as Reaktor
by NI even increases the DIY factor, as more people get into the
"raw analog" sound and therefore seek ways to manipulate sound in a more
low-level-approach (without latency!).
For me a wall of DIY gear is more interesting than a wall of consumer cabinets.
Regards,
   Hans
