These type of convertors are used in a huge variety of industrial applications,
I don't believe they are limited to any one area. As used items I'm not sure
if they have much value unless they become obsolete and in demand as repair
parts. You may want to be careful using them for audio, as many are actually
switching power supplies and therefore can be noisy. They also may be prone
to intermittant failure, I have some in equipment at work that do this (Vicor
brand). Mind you, they operate in a high temperature/radioactive environment,
which doesn't help.
