You know what would be a kewl module? A variable delay
multi-tap trigger delay. Its easy to wire a long shift
register using a 74HC574 by daisy chaining each output
to the next input. each chip gives 8 units of delay.
Clock it from an oscillator, which could even be a
VCO. then have an output for each tap. I'm thinking 16
or 32 outputs. Add a recirculate feature for
continuous triggering. I suspect when the gate input
goes away, the shift register should reset, maybe?
Hmm...

Another neat module might be to use the same shift
register in a random-number circuit. Again, 8, 16, or
32 trigger outs with a VCO clocking.
