Normally, you'd use a MIDI filer or something like that but I don't have loads
of cash so...
I use Cubase, my normal sequencer package, and my Mac when I need to do loads of
patches changes quickly, especially in a gig.
This is how I do it.
1. Set up a blank song and then create a number of tracks, one for each instrument.
2. Assign each track to a MIDI channel which corrosponds to an instrument in
your set up.
3. Create an empty part on each track
4. Change the program number of each part to match the required patch for the song.
5. Copy all of the above parts
6. Paste them back into a position further on in the song.
7. Repeat 4..6 for every song.
8. Now use the function key markers to record the start position for each 'song'
That's it. Everytime you want to do a global patch change you hit a function
key. This saves alot of time and red faces when you forget to change over the
right module or whatever.
I've used this at a number of gigs and it works flawlessly. It generates no
sound and you can use the Cubase track guide as a patch module for addressing
different modules. This makes improvisational work significantly easier too.
The Mac monitor also acts as a stage light which I find handy when the stage
fades to darkness and you can't see the steps off stage. Avoids falling flat on
your ass in front of the audience.
There are pictures of our live setup on the web page.
Hope this helps.
Regards
David
