[sdiy] Midi problems

Tim,

Be careful in the design of your MIDI to CV converter that you don't mate it
to one keyboard unless you can guarantee that it will only see that
keyboard.

Running status is a great way to reduce latency on a MIDI Link however not
all devices you might input to the converter will use running status. I
have found that the more expensive the controller the less likely it is to
use running status (unless you program it such).

In the design of my converter i used my Roland A-33, a Miracle, and MIDISOFT
& Cakewalk sequencers.

Each altered the design and helped build a more bullet proof design. Beware
of MIDI active sensing and Clock be sure you are handling them or drop them
on the floor.

Also i implemented a MIDI OUT where any MIDI input that was not using
Running Status was converted to Running Status to implement a "filter" for
downstream MIDI devices.

MIDI is ok. It's limitations make it obviously that it wasn't designed by
anyone who had done any datacomm or was appreciative or Moore's Law.

regards,
p

Subject: [sdiy] Midi problems

Hey all,

After days of avoiding eye contact with the Midi2cv
project which has been consistantly kicking my butt,
I've dug back into it.

Guess what? I took a look at the midi info from my
kbd, and I seem to be getting Note On ($9x) commands
for both key down and key up.

Have I missed something here?

I have to scope it and look at the bits, which is
pretty tough. But I'm quite sure I'm seeing the same
upper bits in the first byte for both events.

Is my board whacked? Does anyone know anything about a
Kaysound MK-4902?

HHHHHHHEEEEEEEELLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!
