Paul,

Fourier says that any peroidic wave is composed of an infinite series of
harmonically related sine waves. Walsh says that any periodic wave may be
composed of an infinite series of any other shaped wave. Of particular
interest are rectangular waves as they are easily produced with logic,
binary dividers and exclusive-or gates. One problem with Walsh functions is
that the results are not easily predicted when combining Walsh values. Walsh
values may be combined to produce a series of harmonically related sine
waves. This takes lots of mixing.

Electronotes had a series of articles on Walsh functions, many years ago.

Take care,

John

Decades ago a built a little synthesizer that used Walsh functions
