[sdiy] EFM testimonials please...

Okay, I can give a "Starting from Newbie" perspective on this. Previous
DIY: a few little things, lots of mods to guitar pickup electronics were the
first things I did. Well, the first things I did were when I was in
elementary school I did electronics kits which were geared toward people of
that age range. Later some Pre-amps, an EQ, a comparator, a guitar effect
that eventually circuit bent from a distortion / octave into something
monstrous and chaotic, unlike any effect I've ever seen before.
Then I start EFM. Buy some boards from EFM. After attempting and
failing three EFM projects I was close to giving up and I wrote to this
list. Lots of people gave me some very good advice, and I have put a lot of
it into practice. Mr. Gamble actually came by my house and gave me a lot of
help (He lives close by, but still, I though that was really above and
beyond anything I would have anticipated). He cetainly has provided
*extensive* support to people on the EFM list too. I was trying to build
the VCO5 at that time. So he gets me turned on to using proto-typing
boards. This just makes all the difference in my DIY life. Now I've built
three of those VCO5's, and two filters. Using protoboards I have
succesfully done a heavy modification of one EFM filter. Being able to just
pop componants in and out of a proto-board really quick and alter how I'm
moving signals around really makes synth DIY more tangible, understandable,
and fun.
So I've gone from basically nothing, no success with anything with more
than four transistors or one IC, to having built three vcos and two vcfs,
from scratch mind you, no PCBs. Also, Now I've completely altered a filter
to being very different from what it was. I certainly am getting more
*enjoyment* out of DIY. I've ordered several of the new EFM kits and will
enjoy building them too. I say three cheers for Tom Gamble :-)
