I realize that the A100 is not doepfer's first
product. I have been on AH since about 95 or so and
there was a lot of discussion about the MAQ sequencer.
I did not realize they produced kits. But, that isn't
really what I was getting at. My point was that their
introduction of the A100 was meant to fill a niche....
At the time there were no other inexpensive modulars,
at least that's how I remember it.
As far as the cost of producing kits, it is quite
true. Heathkit came to this conclusion as well.
Although much of their demise was as much related to
the loss of appeal of "savings" for building the kit.
It is frequently cheaper to just build something than
it is to design a kit that anyone can build.
