    This subject gets discussed from time to time...and I think I have
come up with a solution for myself, thanks to Chris McDonald (that mini
modular has been sitting under my nose all this time saying "Hey Look,
this is a good solution!").

    I went to my mouser catalog, and in there is part numbers
563-sfa-1838 (14 inch rack panel) and 563-ac-1427 (14 x 17 x 3 inch
aluminum chassis).  Put some pem nuts along the lip, drill some holes in
the panel, and behold, you have a nice thin rack chassis that should be
sufficiently big to hold a synthesizer.  This seems to be about the
right size for the kinds of things I want to do...
