Tell me about it. I learned the hard way around 10 years of age, playing
with a semi-dismantled TV that had been off for *weeks*.
The charge shouldn't be much over 24KV. Running above there, a tube will
start to produce X-rays.
All TV's should have x-ray protection circuitry, but if you mess about with
trimmers you don't know the purpose of, and the protection isn't working,
you may well do some serious invisible damage.
If you're not absolutely sure what you're doing, stay well away from TVs and
monitors.
