Are you using the same speakes practicing as when playing? Keep in mind
also that the dynamics of a bar filled with people talking will be alot
different from your bedroom. I myself do use EQs; during the soundcheck,
run through your compressors, EQs, whatever, and alter them to your
environment.
And yes, any excuse to piss off the neighbors is always good. ;)
