I've always used the white paper from Rane called RaneNote 134 Signal
Processing Fundamentals as my reference on what +4 dBu and -10 dBV are. This
is also a good and very basic reference on studio equipment too. It can be
found in the application notes section of Rane's WEB site as note134.pdf.
