   I always thought that "pro" studio gear uses +4dBu as line level?

Ummm, yes, that's true, many pieces of pro studio gear use +4 dBu.
And this matches the power amp line level input.  So let me ammend
that to "sometimes -10 dBu, sometimes 0 dBu, sometimes +4 dBu".

In practice, I think it's best to look at the mixer, since most
devices will be plugged into it.  And Mackie mixers are certainly
calibrated to 0 dBu.
