[sdiy] Looking for info on freq. counters (SDIY-compatible ;)

    Don't want to dicourage you from getting a frequency counter, but, your
normal run of the mill frequency counter is probably not the best thing to
tune VCO's with.

    One thing you might want to consider keeping an eye out for is an old
stobe tuner.  I used to have a Conn Strobe tuner.  I gave it up long ago when
I didn't think I was ever going to do Synth-DIY any more (don't worry, I
recovered from that...).  The strobe tuner is nice because you can see
instantly changes in pitch, while a counter can take a while.

    There are counters that are just as good, but they are more expensive (I
have one at work, although, it is called a timing analyzer, and measures down
to micro hertz resolution).
