You don't NEED to sync the decks... they run at very precise speeds
and the distance betwwen tthe heads is pretty close to identical.
Even in 1959 tape speed was VERY tightly controlled.
Remember... even the ROMANS has indoor plumbing... we are not
so much advanced as we think...
