I then placed the

The pcb must be very clean before applying the transfers and the etching solution
*must* be agitated continuously for proper etching. Heating it also improves
etching time.

With the RS transfers you need to make sure that they are firmly applied to
eliminate etchant creeping underneath. Always go over the whole pcb and press
them all down firmly just before etching. This works fine for me.
