Hi All,
My first diy panel is coming along just fine. It has
undergone some design changes along the way, however,
I drilled all the holes first for my original design
as it would have been too much work to drill that
panel with knobs/jacks in it. So, while the design of
the panel is evolving somewhat, I'm stuck with the
existing holes.
Nevertheless, I'm happy so far and this is what the
current design has:
3 VCO All CEM 3340 based saw/tri and pulse on two of
three
24db/12db VCLPF with VC resonance Korg 2069 based
VCHPF Based on CEM 3320
3 VCADSR, CEM 3310 based
There are some spots for smaller modules which I have
tentative plans for but am holding off on being exact
just yet. I have a couple of mixers and some spots
for VCAs, but I haven't settled on what I want to use
for VCAs. I'm sure I'll use the one in the 2069 and I
have some CEM 3360s.
My question is more about some of the other modules. I
have some experience with semi-modular gear. I own two
Roland 102s and use them with my arps, modded SH101,
future retro and a few other bits. I also have spent
quite a bit of time with my nord modular. Thus I'm
not completely new to this, however, I want to avoid
making too many mistakes.
So:
Since I know I'll be squeezing a noise source in,
what's the best approach. I'm not talking about how
to make the noise, but rather how much processing to
include in the noise module. Should I just have a
jack for white noise and be done? I see some have
pink and even low frequency random outputs. Some have
level knobs. Useful? Or seldom used but there because
there is panel space. Should I couple it with a
sample and hold, or do that separately.
Are there any cool random source designs on the web?
Anything like the Serge random source?
Speaking of serge, I really like the universal slope
generator. Are there any designs for anything
simmilar. Considering I have three vc controllable
ADSRs based on the 3310, can anyone think of anything
unique to do to one of them. I have holes drilled for
VC control for all of them, but those jacks could be
something else. I thought about pre-delay, but to me
that seems best implemented with a separate VC gate
delay module. Am I missing something in that
assumption?
Ring modulator: I have no LM1496 or AD parts, should
I just order one and wait, or build one with OTAs,
which I have a lot of?
I have a frac-rack panel that is, for all intents and
purposes, unpopulated save my paia midi2cv8. I built
some modules, but I probably won't use them. The
Frac-rack and my panel combined with my regelwerk will
be my modular for a while however, so, can you think
of anything essential, other than housekeeping stuff
like mixers, scalers etc, that I have left out.
Thanks
Daryl
