Ding! We have a winner.
Thankyou, you have clarified why I don't like the 3320
as an LPF and why I will like it just fine as an hpf.
Just out of curiosity, do you know if the Elka Synthex
filter has any kind of magic built into the design
that makes the 3320 sound better? Or is it really
just a 3320 which sounds ok, but not as good as other
LPFs.
Also, are the other CEM filters, 3372, 3328 and the
synths on a chip 3394 3396 etc etc, simmilar
internally to the 3320? I like the sound of the 3372,
but that is because I perceive it as smooth and clean.
Perhaps it is just distorted CEM filters I don't
like. I can't really be sure because I have not had
much opportunity to evalute them standalone. I don't
like the 3320 much because I didn't like my Rev3 P5,
OBXA and OBXS when I had them. I like the 3372 because
I like my m12 and the prophet 600. I love the korg,
roland and ssm filters because I like synths I have
with those chips in them. But, what I'm getting at,
is that it might be as much the designs in those
synths than the chips themselves.
At any rate, my first two diy modular filters will be
a low pass with the Korg 2069, a 3320 hipass and then
on to the 3372 based M12 multimode filter.
Thanks
Daryl
