[sdiy] DIY help needed

Hello people,
I am building my own control thingy for my speakers and stereo, i have the equalizer all built and workin, now im not sure how to call this but basicaly i wana make rows of LED's (light emiting diodes) and make then *jump* to the beat of the music. Could anyone please direct me to some schematics? or maybe just where to start looking.

Another thing, im sure some of you have made your own DIY loud speakers, wel what is really in it? thers the speakers (subwhoofers, tweeters etc.) and thers a little circuit...what is it and what exactly does it do? and any schematics on that?
