Hello Juho

How much experience do you have with building electronic projects,
and what test equipment do you have ?

I ask because if this is new to you, then a KIT might be the best
method.
Good entry level kits are made by PAiA such as the "Fatman"...
(which I'm sort of so-so on because of the VCO method...) or their
9700 series modules.

The Fatman uses linear oscillators (V/hz) , the 9700 series use
exponential (V/oct).
At risk of starting a war... I'll say that the V/oct is the de-facto
analog standard...
but some manufacturers have used V/hz as well (Korg).

Liik for the ASM-1, a synth board made by Gene Stopp. Here you need
to buy the components your self, make your own box, etc... Harder but
better result.

If you have the money, the MOTM modules from synthtech.com are a
good choice for top-of-the-line quality.

Other "manufacturers" like Oakley Sound Systems, and Blacet make an
assortment of modules.

You might join EFM-SYNTH at yahoogroups. TomG (no longer of synth-diy)
makes a line of boards and semi-kits for synth modules. The business
model is
halfway between manufacturer and co-op... mostly the boards are run in
batches
a couple of times a year, and everyone places their orders at once. They
just finished
an order cycle, so you'd have to ask if any are available. Schematics
and support
are offered to people who buy a board through another list called EFM
support
(which you cannot subscribe yourself to, afaik....).

I've built a large number of EFM modules and have not had problems.
Others have,
there are sometimes errors in the parts list, or a mod you need to
make... OTOH
the boards cost $10-15 dollars for most modules.

I've built the VCO4, with saw/pulse/tri/sine wave, the Dual VCO3 with
saw and
pulse.

In filters I've built the VCF1 (state variable), VCF2 (moog ladder) VCF6
(diode
ladder) VCF8 (dual sallen-key a'la Korg MS-20) and VCF12 (lp-bp Korg
Delta
clome). I like the VCF1, Love the VCF2 and VCF 6. The VCF8 and the
VCF12
are good as well. They are not to my taste... but there is no accounting
for taste.

I built some other modules from this line as well.

there are lots of synth-diy websites, some with schematics. Individual
members
should chime in here....
