I bought one of those labelling machines a while back and have been
labelling all sorts of electronic and musical stuff with it.
The one I have is by Dymo and is called "Letra Tag", but there are lots
of other makes as well, and they don't cost an arm and a leg.
You can get labels in all sorts of colours, and they come with in a
plastic type or paper. The plastic ones look great.

... and yes, they don't leave any residue like stickers would do.
