You might want to check with EG&G, which is the company that Reticon either
became or was sold to. I believe that they still make CCDs (close relative of
BBD analog delay ICs) as image sensors. Who knows, maybe one of their
distributors still has a few of them after all these years. I talked with some
people at EG&G recently and they were surprisingly helpful, especially since I
was calling about a product they hadn't made in some 15 years!
I'm not familiar with the R5101, but I used to have a few of their other
BBDs--the RD5107, I think. Worst-case scenario: you could (maybe) hack an old
SAD1024 into the circuit. The RD5107 was their replacement for the SAD1024 (but
came in a different package--8 pin rather than 16 pin). I would be surprised if
the R5101 was _that_ different from the SAD1024. The RD5107 was essentially the
same, but with an on-board clock driver. You can still get SAD1024s despite
their obsolete status; try Magic Parts (www.magicparts.com).
Boy, people sure love their BBDs. I can feel a flame war coming from Harry
already...
