[sdiy] Anyone ever build a sampler?

I have considered it kind off.

It also depends what you mean by sampler.  I have thought about building a
stand alone box that would allow me to program patterns and trigger
samples.  Kind of like a drummachine.  That wouldn't be too hard to do I
dont think. A fast microcontroller+large flash rom+dacs+buttons.

But if you mean a sampler with polyphony and multitimbrality, and
synthesis features, I haven't really thought of that.  Sounds like a lot
of work. You can buy very nice second hand samplers for cheap now.  I have
the EMU esi-32 and I paid around $350 for it. I think it does more than I
need it too and it's from like 1995.
