Most computers use switching power supplies. Switching power supplies are
noisy. (electrical noise) Switching power supplies usually require a
minimum load in order to properly regulate. Current available from the
negative voltages (-5V, -12V) is usually limited. Most synthesizers use
linear power supplies that if properly designed and assembled are very
quiet.
