I whole-heatedly agree with Harry when he says 'Use sockets'. Whether you
are a new to DIY or an experienced synth builder, the small additional cost
of using sockets is far outweighed by the time and stress that will result
if you need to diagnose a fault and replace a chip. Another issue is the
ease of upgrading. For example, those of us who used sockets years ago now
have the option of replacing 741s with TL071s.

Subject: [sdiy] ASM1 TL072/TL074 vs TL082

Hello!
I'm going to build the ASM1 and am currently preparing the PCB's.
I'm willing to replace the TL082 with TL072 and TL074.
What are the drawbacks (if any)?
Would you recommend sticking to the TL082's?
Is the noise ratio better when using the TL072/TL074 's?
Is it important for cerain modules only?
In how far is the sound affected?
Regards,
         Hans
