The 4013 divide by three requires a square wave in for a symetrical output.
I tried it using a narrow pulse once, and the result sounded exactly like
divide by 2, but the frequency counter insisted it was divide by 3 - the
other step in the sequence was so narrow, it was practically invisible, both
to hearing and the CRO.
