Standard japanese part numbers.
2SA and 2SB are both PNP, 2SC/2SD are NPN.

MCM Electronics has a neat book printed in mostly japanese that gives
the specs for these transistors.
"Japanese Specification Manuals"
part numbers :
81-450 Transistor Specification manual
81-1205 Transistor Substitution manual
81-1235 Diode Specification Manual
81-1240 FET Specification manual

$20 a pop.

One thing I really like about Japanese transistors is they really tend to
do transistors in a numerical series, so looking at the book you might see
that 2SC1255 is 20v, and then across teh next 10 part numbers you see the
voltage/disipation going up 10% or so. Its nice because you can from a repair
point of view just stock the last in the series.

I bet some of the american part numbers do the same, but I was more familier
with the Japanese ones from doing repair work.
