The CA3080 methode is pretty darn good, and cheap...The best one I have
ever seen however is one that uses a CA3280. It uses both halves, so this
methode is very pricey (a CA3280 is about $4), but you can get the
distortion pretty low (about 0.5%, maybe a little better, as I recall).
I prefer the CA3080 methode as it probably has the fewest parts...for
the performance.
