idea (never tested):
depending on the thickness of the panel, and the length of the shafts, it
might be feasable to mount the knobs on a sheet of scrap metal (the lid
from an old vcr case would be ideal) and then secure that 'plate', with
all of the knobs on it, to the underside of the case exterior.
then, the nuts would be well concealed, underneath the case exterior.
the problems would be securing and stabalizing the sheet, but i suspect it
can be done, if you put enough resources into it.
